Surprising

I went to a great dinner party last night, the CookOff as its known amongst friends.  Was a grand feast, but to relate to the title I met a girl, whom I late found out is a jazz singer, friend let her know that I play drums and she started to ask afew questions about it, ‘what style I play?’, then the A bomb question, ‘so, who are your favourites?’

A curious glance over! Do I now hold back because any name I say will be washed over (I assume) or do I name the greats that my luminaries?? So I continue with ‘Vinny, Gadd, Dennis Chambers you know the greats’. Being very receptive she nodded her head knowingly.

With the growing conversation she tells me now she’s been apart of a group, I think she said the Youth Jazz Orchestra, (I’ve now found out that she said NYJO – National Youth Jazz Orchestra) but I’m not to sure, this group invites many musicians to perform, and teach.  How lucky for these people to have these guests come over and share stories, ideas, performing!

Well I have to respect the fact that there’s others out there people who love drums,  play drums and/or appreciate them as much as I do. So I wont be surprised next time I get asked about my favourite drummers, just a shame we’ve not got badges to show it.
