More about Drummercise
My lessons are taught using many highly recommended texts books, the main book I start my beginners of with is Rhythm and Fills. This was written by Mike Dolbear, he in turn taught my tutor Rob Stevens (RhythmWorks). One main reason to use text books is to get students familiar with music notation, it provides a measurable history to what has, and is being learnt.
Some of the other books I’ve learnt from and use are;
Advance funk studies (Rick Latham),
Conversations in Clave (Horacio Hernandez),
The new Breed (Gary Chester),
Jungle drum ‘n’ Bass (Johnny Rabb)
Drumset warn-ups (Rod Morgenstein), Future Sounds (David Garibaldi).
In addition to the large collection of books, I’ve amassed a wide DVD collection of featured drummers showing technique, giving tips, live performances, how to’s. Many clips from these DVDs’ can be found on-line.
Throughout my learning I’ve attended many workshops/day lessons and seen many drumming artist play in London, a wish to fulfil is to visiting the Modern drummer magazine Festival in the USA.
A little about myself, I’ve been play since I was 17 years old (29 this year) ever since the Brit pop era came around with Oasis, Ocean colour scene, Paul Weller, Pulp and Blur.
It was a revival in guitar/rock bands , which later give birth to loads of indie bands - can’t name any I didn’t get into that genre of music - which after a little while going against it I heard the Second Album from Oasis and Alan White’s play grabbed me and held me in this unshakable grip that’s lasted all these years.
After those guys, I came across Billy Cobham, Dennis Chambers, Vinnie Colautia, Jojo Mayer, Akira Jimbo, Jimmy Chamberlin (smashing pumpkins), Carter Beauford (Dave Matthews Band), John Blackwell (Prince and Justin Timberlake), Tony Williams, Steve Gadd, Terreon Gully (Christian McBride band) and the list will keep on growing!
From this dynamic art of drumming, I’ve found and experienced many things, great and challenging, but I’m very happy to have moved into a position were I get to play, show and share others’ what initially captured my mind and help them aboard this creative ride.
I’ve have some playing of mine recorded on some demos that me and my band mates recorded a few years ago. Link
In the past I’ve playing gigs, band rehearsals, recorded in studios across London and taked Guildhall examinations (Grade 7 - studying Grade 8 ) and learnt about different styles and ways of playing.
As always, more to follow…
